Understanding the spirit of Jezebel - Part 1
Theologians and Believers all over the word are more intrigued about the much talked about “Jezebel spirit” that is mentioned in the Bible and also spoken of by Jesus in the book of Revelations. What could be this spirit that attacks the Church? The Pastor? The Man of God? This question tops the mind of all Bible Researchers, Theologians and Believers alike all over the world. This post will give you a definite insight of the ‘spirit of Jezebel’ in a new perspective as over the years, I have heard, seen, experienced and witnessed the ‘Jezebel spirit’ while serving as a Pastor.
1 Kings 19: Elijah Escapes from Jezebel
1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, also how he had executed all the prophets with the sword. 2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.”3 And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.
The above verse is the most noted verse on queen Jezebel, the wife of King Ahab during the time of the great prophet Elijah. Elijah had a great victory on mount Carmel, where he demonstrated the power of God before all the people, where the fire came down and devoured the offering after his small prayer and later he executed all the false prophets of Baal and Asherah. And this news comes to Jezebel and she decrees a threat to Elijah as we read above.
A man or woman can be defined by his/ her spirit which means his/ her nature, character, thinking, influence and so on. All these traits constitute the spirit of a man. Jesus himself warned his disciples when they desired destruction by fire on a Samaritan village that had not received them.
Luke 9:55 But He turned and rebuked them, and said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of.
And so, in our study about Jezebel, these are the things that we can bring out from her threat to Elijah:
- No respect for the Power or the Anointing of God
- Rebellious Nature
- Disregard of Spiritual Authority
- Absence of Humility
- Violent and Brutal
- Disobedient
- Refusing to Submit
- Dominating
- Independant
